LNG Tanks - Elevated Tank - Base Construction

A unique insight into the construction of an elevated LNG Tank base.

The number of piles, each constructed some 60M deep into the ground.

The shuttering provides the elevation to the concrete pour, whilst the reinforcement crosses through the pile reinforcement to provide the required structural connection.

The reinforcement for the wall stands vertical, where the interface with the post tensioning system is created.

All this detail is hidden once complete, always easy to forget the work that has gone before.

The geotechnical element of the design was extremely challenging. Like many coastlines, sand and clay bands with no rock base are not the perfect recipe for such large structures.

I think they call it fun !
