Building Design - Shanghai, China - Amec Construction



My first trip to China involved working on the DOW Campus / HQ for Amec Construction.

Amec had just opened their operation in Shanghai and this was the premier project to develop a foothold in the thriving Chinese market.

Amec's architects set out the Masterplan for the campus, whilst the building design engineers created the building to meet with local Chinese code.

We also set about hiring local staff to build up the size and reputation of the office, based in Information Tower in the heart of Pudong, overlooking the Jinmao Tower and Shanghai World Finance Center.

To our amazement, Amec then decided to concentrate on Oil & gas only, by selling off its other divisions. The Shanghai office was sold to S2F (an Australian Architectural consultancy) who then sold it on to SKM, it is now in the possession of Jacobs.

Following the completion of this project I returned to the UK, to come back a few years later to work for S2F on the Novartis campus project.

Shanghai is a great city, I remember it with great fondness and pride, I hopefully will get the chance to see it again one day.
