Subsea Pipeline - Pig Launcher & Pig Receiver

I recently attended the PIM (Pre-Inspection Meeting) at the manufacturers offices and production facility based in Incheon, just outside of Seoul.

The project has a 4.5 km gas pipeline connecting the Regasification Platform with the Onshore Treatment and Metering equipment.

The subsea pipeline has to be cleaned as part of the commissioning process, Pig Launchers & Receivers are located at the extremities of the subsea pipeline. The pig (cleaning plug) is inserted into the Launcher and propelled using compressed air through the pipeline, eventually ending up in the Receiver.

The Plug and the debris are inspected to assess the amount of residue collected, in order to determine how many times the process is repeated.

During the 3D model review, we assessed the Launcher & Receiver equipment locations as well as the geometry of the pipeline and the ergonomics of the layout.

Production starts at the end of this month, one Launcher will be shipped to the Platform construction yard in Thailand, the remaining Launcher and Receivers will be sent to Bahrain for integration and installation on the facility.
