TM60 Road Header - Mining / Tunnel Digging Machine - Thomson, Manitoba, Canada.

Feels like it was only a few years ago !

The machine was built in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, tested then stripped down into manageable crates for shipment to Canada.

A cavern was created at 1500 feet below ground level at the Inco mine in Thomson, Manitoba.

Once re-assembled underground, the machine was put into action, cutting through the granite rock as if it was butter.

A fabulous automation project, -35 degrees C in the winter, + 35 degrees in the summer and I was there during both.

(Sorry for the backing music, it seemed a good idea at the time !)
